RICHMOND — The VCU Rams put together a powerful offensive performance at the Siegel Center, pulling away from the American University Eagles for a 105–83 victory Thursday night. The win improves VCU’s record to 8–4 on the season and showcased a balanced scoring attack that kept the Eagles at arm’s length throughout the game.

From the outset, VCU dictated the pace, using efficient shooting and strong rebounding to build momentum. The Rams took control midway through the first half and never relinquished the lead, entering halftime with a comfortable 48–35 advantage. VCU’s ability to spread the floor and convert from deep propelled the early surge, forcing American to play catch-up for the remainder of the night.

Leading the way off the bench was Terrence Hill Jr., who finished with 17 points and five rebounds, energizing VCU’s second unit and providing scoring punch whenever the starters rested. Hill’s contributions were critical, especially in the second half when the Rams extended their lead with an 11–3 run that ballooned their advantage into the 20-point range.

Junior Lazar Djokovic (photo above) was another key performer, scoring 15 points on highly efficient shooting, while guard Nyk Lewis added 14 points, going a perfect 5-for-5 from the free-throw line. The Rams shot a blistering 57% from the field and knocked down nine three-pointers, keeping the offense humming from start to finish. VCU also dominated the glass, finishing with 43 rebounds to American’s 26, and controlled the paint with a 23–9 advantage in second-chance points.

American had its share of highlights, with Wyatt Nausadis leading the Eagles with 17 points, and Geoff Sprouse adding 16 points and five assists. Julen Iturbe chipped in 15 points in a strong all-around effort, but despite five players scoring in double figures for American, the Eagles were unable to slow the Rams’ scoring onslaught.

413’s Bottomline

The victory marks another step forward for VCU as the Rams continue to build consistency in non-conference play. With a potent mix of depth, shooting, and rebounding, VCU has demonstrated they can perform at a high offensive level and keep pressure on opponents throughout all four quarters.

VCU will look to carry this offensive rhythm forward as they prepare for their next Atlantic 10 matchup, while American aims to regroup and get back in the win column.
