ATHENS — In a big SEC showdown, No. 5 Georgia overpowered No. 10 Texas with a convincing 35–10 victory, strengthening their College Football Playoff positioning and showing why they’re a legitimate title threat. Georgia improved to 9–1 overall and 7–1 in SEC play, while Texas falls to 7–3 (4–2 SEC).

Georgia drew first blood and never let Texas back in. On their opening drive, the Bulldogs methodically punched in a touchdown, and they followed it up before halftime with another score, taking a 14–3 lead into the locker room.

Texas fought to stay close in the third quarter, when Arch Manning connected with Ryan Wingo for a 7-yard touchdown, narrowing the gap to 14–10. But Georgia flipped the switch in the fourth: quarterback Gunner Stockton delivered two more touchdown passes, including a 30-yard strike to London Humphreys. The aftermath of that touchdown led to Georgia recovering a surprise onside kick and turned it into another score. Stockton added a 4-yard rushing touchdown to cap the night

Georgia’s defense was stifling they held Texas to just 23 rushing yards on 17 attempts and forced an interception of Manning. Meanwhile, the Bulldogs outgained Texas 357 total yards to 274, getting 229 through the air and 128 on the ground.

413’s Bottomline

This win is a big deal for Georgia. Their aggressiveness was their team’s mentality tonight especially with converting multiple fourth downs and recovering that surprise onside kick. Coach Kirby Smart isn’t just coaching not to lose; he’s coaching to dominate. The victory also bolsters Georgia’s playoff resume and sets them up nicely for the season’s final stretch.

For Texas, this is a frustrating loss. They hung around early, but their inability to consistently run the ball and put together back-to-back sustained drives hurt them. Their playoff hopes will take a serious hit, and they’ll need to regroup fast.
